Rock n’ Roll Winery Wedding

In 2018, a dear friend of mine was planning her wedding. They had chosen the venue and theme, but wanted some direction on the design and decor. We came up with one of the most fun packages I have ever designed.

For several years, I have worked with my friends at the Woodstock Music Shop creating and cutting designs out of upcycled vinyl records on their CNC router. For this “rock n’ roll” wedding at a winery, I knew we could do something cool with decorations made from old records. We came up with some amazing stuff. First, the invitation set the tone, with an illustration of a wine bottle cut from a record next to a piano keyboard (the groom is an established keyboard player, so this was a great way to let the guests know that music would abound at the ceremony—it was incredible, if you were wondering).

Once we had set a mood, we went to work creating other elements of the decor for their special day. The party favors were a highlight: wine bottle-shaped magnets attached to a card cut from the sleeve of records. Then of course we created a banner with their names, cut from some select records we knew they would love. I created some flag-style pennant letters for a “Just Married” banner to hang from the incredible old-time taxi that transported them from the ceremony to the after-party. We build a three-tiered record cake stand for the cupcakes, cute 3-D stars to place at each table, masks and props for the photo booth, some intricate lanterns to place around the venue—all made from vinyl records! It was an incredible day and a memorable project.

I learned a lot about scale from this project. What looked like SO MUCH decor when we packed it into the car spread out pretty thin at this beautiful venue. Although I consider it a total success, I think if I did this again, I’d be sure to scope out the venue ahead of time to plan the quantities accordingly and really vibe out the space in a more complete way.
